Job Purpose
The Fleet Lead is responsible for overseeing and managing the company's delivery fleet to ensure the efficient and timely transportation of goods. This role focuses on ensuring that the fleet operates safely, cost-effectively, and in compliance with all legal and company requirements. The Fleet Lead also monitors the performance of drivers, manages vehicle maintenance schedules, and implements strategies to optimize fleet operations.
Key Accountabilities
- Fleet Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the fleet, including vehicle allocation, scheduling, and tracking to ensure timely deliveries.
- Driver Supervision: Lead and supervise a team of drivers, ensuring they follow company policies, safety standards, and performance expectations.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Coordinate regular maintenance and repairs of the fleet to ensure vehicles are roadworthy and safe, minimizing downtime and operational disruptions.
- Fleet Performance Monitoring: Track fleet performance metrics such as fuel efficiency, delivery times, and maintenance costs, and take action to improve fleet performance and reduce costs.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure that all fleet operations comply with legal regulations, safety protocols, and company policies. Conduct regular safety checks and driver training.
- Route Optimization: Collaborate with the logistics team to optimize delivery routes, reduce fuel consumption, and increase efficiency in delivery times.
- Budget & Cost Control: Manage the fleet budget, ensuring cost-effective operations while maintaining high service standards. Identify areas for cost savings and operational improvements.
- Vendor & Supplier Relations: Manage relationships with external vendors, including vehicle leasing companies, fuel suppliers, and maintenance service providers to ensure high-quality service and competitive pricing.
- Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of vehicle inspections, repairs, fuel usage, and driver performance. Prepare reports on fleet performance for management review.
- Team Training & Development: Provide ongoing training and development for drivers to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to perform their roles effectively.

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; a Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is preferred
Experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience in fleet management or logistics, with at least 2 years in a leadership role overseeing drivers and vehicles
Key Competencies
· Strong leadership and organizational skills.
· Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
· Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and fleet management best practices.
· Ability to manage budgets and control costs.
Familiarity with fleet management software and tracking tools
